Delta Air Lines reported a greater-than-expected increase in quarterly profit on Thursday thanks to “surprise” demand growth, prompting the airline to accelerate its hiring of pilots, flight attendants, and airport workers, Chief Executive Ed Bastian told Reuters. In a rare intervention, Deutsche Bank’s regulators are blocking a banker backed by its largest shareholder, Qatar, from a seat on the supervisory board because of a conflict of interest, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. Deutsche Bank chair Paul Achleitner had announced in August the appointment of former UBS manager Juerg Zeltner, praising him as a valuable addition and “a top-level European banker with proven expertise”.
