A plan to nationalise parts of BT to provide free broadband to everyone in Britain marks the extent of the opposition Labour Party’s nationalisation policy, its finance spokesman John McDonnell said on Friday. Labour has previously pledged to nationalise power networks, Royal Mail, rail and water companies, but McDonnell said it would not nationalise the whole of BT. “We’re not taking over all of BT, we’re simply taking over Openreach, the BT technology and some elements from within BT itself,” he told BBC’s Today radio programme. …read more […]
The carrier said it had signed a strategic partnership with travel technology company Kiwi.com that would give customers access to destinations not served by AirAsia, including London, Dubai, Madrid and Auckland. “We are reinventing ourselves as more than just an airline, bringing to life our vision for airasia.com to be the region’s one-stop travel shop,” AirAsia Group Chief Executive Tony Fernandes said in a news release. Citigroup said it has appointed Ken Chow and Udhay Furtado to head the bank’s Asian equity capital markets in a move which will bring the investment bank’s local structure in line with its global operations. The bank introduced the Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) model in September last year, placing all of the firm’s banking and capital markets businesses under one umbrella, and has appointed leaders in those divisions in each region since then. NEW DELHI/BENGALURU (Reuters) – Indian telecom stocks rose on Friday amid hopes that the government would step in to help the ailing sector, a day after two top mobile carriers warned their ability to operate and make profits would depend on relief from the country. The Supreme Court last month upheld a demand by the telecoms ministry that wireless carriers pay 920 billion rupees ($12.89 billion) in overdue levies and interest within months. Bharti Airtel Ltd on Thursday posted a consolidated net loss of 230.45 billion rupees ($3.23 billion) in the second quarter of its financial year as it made provisions for dues owed to the government. (Bloomberg) — Saipem SpA is considering a combination with rival Subsea 7 SA to create a larger European oil services provider, people with knowledge of the matter said.The Italian company is pursuing a potential deal with Norway’s Subsea 7 as it seeks to bulk up and weather an industry downturn, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private.
