Russia backs non-dollar trade with Turkey, no promise of help amid lira crisis

Russia backs using national currencies, not the U.S. dollar, in its trade with Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday, but he made no firm commitments that would immediately help Ankara to weather its currency crisis. Cars plunge as highway bridge collapses in Italy; 20 killed

A bridge on a main highway linking Italy with France collapsed Tuesday in the Italian port city of Genoa during a sudden, violent storm, sending vehicles plunging 45 meters (nearly 150 feet) into a heap of rubble below. Turkish lira edges up from record low on central bank pledge

The Turkish lira pulled back on Tuesday from a record low of 7.24 a day earlier after the central bank pledged to provide liquidity in response to a meltdown which has unsettled global markets.
