Boeing, Embraer Forge $4.75 Billion Commercial Jet Venture

Boeing Co. is forming a $4.75 billion venture with long-time industrial partner Embraer SA, a move that will expand the U.S. planemaker’s manufacturing base abroad while extending its reach into the market for small jetliners. Under a preliminary deal, Boeing will own 80 percent of a partnership controlling Embraer’s commercial airplane and services business while the Brazilian manufacturer holds 20 percent, the companies said in a statement Thursday. Chinese stocks slipped on Thursday and the yuan gave back some of its recent gains against the dollar a day before China and the United States were due to set punitive tariffs on each other’s goods, heightening fears of a global trade war. Rescuers race to drain water inside Thai cave before rains

Officials have said they prefer to get the boys out as soon as possible because heavy rain is expected to start by Saturday, which almost surely will raise water levels again in the cave, making passage in some areas even more difficult if not impossible.
