Can you feel the ground moving beneath your feet? Shares of Sorrento Therapeutics (SRNE) skyrocket 70% today after the small drug maker were made an offer they could, apparently, refuse. The biotech announced it received an unsolicited proposal by two biopharmaceutical companies to acquire all the company’s issued and outstanding shares, in cash, for a price between $3 and $5 per share. After consulting with the company’s advisors, the board rejected the offer on the basis the deal significantly undervalued the biotech and would be against stockholders’ interests. Canada’s Nutrien Ltd, the world’s biggest fertilizer company by capacity, said on Monday it would temporarily shut its largest potash mine due to a railway strike. The strike by some 3,200 unionized employees at Canadian National Railway Co entered its seventh day, leaving more than 30 vessels waiting on Canada’s West Coast. Fiat Chrysler has already started 90% of the investments earmarked for Italy, the auto maker’s Chief Operating Officer for the EMEA region Pietro Gorlier said on Monday. FCA – which is finalizing merger talks with France’s Peugeot owner PSA to try to create the world’s fourth-largest carmaker – announced last year it would spend 5 billion euros ($5.5 billion) in Italy up to 2021.
